Manufacturing and production facilities are frequently unique based upon what is being produced, when the facility was built, what part of the country or world the facility is operating in, where the company saw themselves in the marketplace at time of construction, and may other unique considerations.

In order to develop effective reliability strategies and maintenance practices many organizations have created their reliability strategies and practices utilizing either classic RCM analysis or some form of a streamlined RCM analysis process or the vendor recommendations. The drawback behind these approaches are several. First, they can be very time consuming and expensive processes.

Their results are frequently dependent on the skill and knowledge level of the RCM analyst and they frequently does not consider the broad base of industry experiences with like or similar pieces of equipment.

Developing, operating and maintaining an asset in such a way, that it performs the desired function at its best, is a complex task and a challenge for many companies. Asset reliability management starts with a project design phase and ends with decommissioning of the last piece of equipment. At KPMG, we help clients to maximize asset performance and reliability by implementing critical processes and methodologies:

- Integration of equipment reliability and maintainability concepts in the project implementation process;
- Applying risk-based approaches to asset maintenance: Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Risk Based Inspections (RBI);
- Implementation of the root cause analysis process (RCFA) and the fault tree analysis (FTA);
- Design and implementation of the overall maintenance and reliability management concept and system built around the four key areas: Asset management strategy and reliability improvement program, Maintenance and Reliability planning, job execution and control, monitoring and improvement.
